This is the underpainting for a new portrait.
I am hoping to keep control of my childish impulses to add lots of colour, which normally results in everything looking orange.
Apparently the subject looks scary and this is not meant to be the case so this is going to be a very difficult piece of work.
A strange thing occurs which is that you are very happy and excited with the work and also hate it and see it as a monstrous thing with nothing but errors and blunders, both at the same time.
This is what makes painting so exciting and compelling yet so painful and tortuous.
